CAF Women's AFCON 2024: CAF doubles prize money ahead of kick-off
On the eve of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (CAF Women's AFCON), scheduled from July 5 to 26, 2025 in Morocco, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a historic increase in prize money.
The tournament winner will now pocket $1 million (about €930,000), double the prize awarded in the previous edition. The runner-up will take home $500,000, while third place will be rewarded with $350,000. CAF has also raised all prize allocations, with an overall increase of 45% in the tournament's financial envelope.
"This 100% increase will help improve the pay conditions for players, coaches, and technical staff," declared Patrice Motsepe, President of CAF, adding that the level of African women's football continues to rise.
This 2024 edition promises to be fiercely competitive: no team is making its tournament debut. Morocco, runners-up at home in 2022, are dreaming of redemption. Defending champions South Africa are aiming for back-to-back titles. Nine-time champions Nigeria are determined to reclaim their throne after a painful elimination in 2022.
