BVB women win Kreispokal

15 games, 15 wins, 112 goals scored and just two conceded - that's the Borussia Dortmund women's football team's record in the Kreispokal  over the past four years. The victory over TV Brechten closes the circle, as TVB were also the opponents when they won their first title in 2022. In the past two years, Eintracht Dorstfeld and SpVg Berghofen were both overcome in the final. "We started as underdogs four years ago and are now the firm favourites and have put the work in time and again," said BVB coach Thomas Sulewski about the Kreispokal.

Sulewski sent a completely new team out at the Schiffhorst Sportplatz compared to the recent Ruhr derby, with the sole exception being right-back Mia Böger. Playing in a 4-4-2 formation, the Westfalenliga leaders took command straight away and were rewarded in the eighth minute: Mandy Reinhardt's long-range shot from a half-left position found the right corner of the net.

Despite falling behind, Brechten stuck to their guns defensively and focused on closing down space in front of their own goal. After Nova Wicke's long-range shot was parried, the TVB defence fell into disarray for a moment, Sarah Giebels sent the ball sharply back into the middle and Reinhardt was on hand again to slot the ball into the back of the net (34). In stoppage time, Brechten managed to pull a goal back through Caroline Junge following a counter-attack (45+2). This was the first goal conceded from open play in four years of the Kreispokal. The only goal previously conceded was a penalty in the 2022 semi-final.

After the break, the Black & Yellows immediately restored the advantage. Marjana Naceva curled a free-kick from just outside the area perfectly into the top-left corner (50). Borussia dictated the game at will in the second half. Ann-Sophie Vogel (66) and Naceva (74) scored to put the game beyond doubt. Substitute Dana Marquardt then brought the score to 6-1 shortly before the final whistle (89).

BVB's dominance in the Kreispokal is now likely to come to an end, as the Black & Yellows will most likely no longer be competing in the competition next season. As the promoted team from the Regionalliga, Borussia would automatically qualify for the Westfalenpokal and would no longer compete in the Kreispokal. Their record of four titles in four years with 112 goals scored and two conceded therefore already has its place in the history books.

BVB women: Kölmel – Böger (46, Vogel), Jung, Sommer, Auffenberg – Tayeh (64, Willeke), Wicke, Becker, Naceva (78, Bedarf) – Giebels (64, Grothe), Reinhardt (78, Marquardt)
