At FLW we have spoken to former England international turned pundit Carlton Palmer to get his thoughts on the Burnley managerial situation.

Burnley's managerial hunt is continuing as we approach July with no appointment imminent at Turf Moor.

Having lost Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich in late May, Clarets fans may have expected an appointment to be in by now.

But, it hasn't turned out that way and with just over a month until the new season begins, whoever joins now will have a difficult task on their hands.

Currently, Kompany's former assistants Mike Jackson and Craig Bellamy are in interim charge and the latter is believed to have held talks with the club's hierarchy about becoming the full-time boss next year.

But, the chances of appointing Bellamy may have been scuppered by Wales' search for a new manager, with the national side interested in signing him up.

Elsewhere Burnley were supposedly close to appointing Dutch legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, but these plans have also been halted with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag approaching Van Nistelrooy about becoming part of his backroom staff.

This could prove costly for the Clarets and they are once again at ground zero in their search for a new manager/head coach.

At Football League World we spoke to former England international turned pundit Carlton Palmer to get his thoughts on Burnley's managerial chase.

Palmer said: "It's an interesting one with Craig for me, because I am surprised that he didn't go with Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich, having worked with Kompany for a long time and he has been his trusted right-hand man.

"He looked at the Burnley job and has been interviewed. He knows the DNA of the football club and has been working under Vincent so you would have thought he would be a front-runner for the job there".

Speaking about Bellamy's Wales links, Palmer added: "It's an honour to manage your country and why not give Craig Bellamy the opportunity?"

Van Nistelrooy's links to United will also come as a concern to Clarets fans and Palmer had this to say on the situation: "The news coming out is that Ruud van Nistelrooy is on the shortlist for the Burnley job but has also been offered a job in the backroom staff of Manchester United.

"I think that would be fantastic. Ruud going in and working under ten Hag will give you a natural progression later on for van Nistelrooy to manage his former club".

For Burnley, this will not be fantastic news and the retired Dutch striker's loyalty to his former club will surely see him sign a deal at Old Trafford.

Burnley's managerial hunt continues

For Bellamy and van Nistelrooy, the chance to be a part of organisations that they hold dear in Wales and Manchester United respectively will surely hold more enticement than the Burnley job.

This may cross two lines through potential targets then for the Lancashire club, meaning they join Liam Rosenior, Frank Lampard and Alan Pardew as those who will not be signing a deal.

Carlos Corberán and Igor Tudor are names mentioned with the vacancy. But, Corberan is currently in charge of Championship rivals West Brom and Tudor may see himself as better than Burnley, having recently departed Lazio in Italy.

For Clarets fans, this issue is now getting frustrating and it feels like every week a new manager is getting excluded from the job. The hope will be that these problems are sorted in time for pre-season, but currently no leader is imminent.
