Jonathan Burkardt was officially introduced as an Eintracht Frankfurt player on Monday following his transfer from Mainz last week.
At his first press conference with the club, the 24-year-old explained his reasons for joining Eintracht and reflected on how the move came about.
“I’m here because I’ve been offered a fantastic sporting perspective,” Burkardt said.
“Playing internationally is a big step for me, as it means more games at the highest level.
“I wanted to join a club that really wants me – and that’s the feeling I got with Eintracht Frankfurt,” he added.
Burkardt also expressed his excitement about playing in the Champions League and praised the club’s atmosphere and unity.
“The stadium, the fans, the team – it all symbolizes incredible energy. At Eintracht, there’s a real unity on the pitch. Watching and playing against the lads was enjoyable. The coach also constantly pushes the squad forward. There are many positive factors here,” the striker said.
He emphasized that he doesn’t see Eintracht as an intermediate step in his career.
“I’m definitely not here just to leave quickly. It’s important for me to identify with the club and the city. I don’t see this as a stopover or stepping stone.”
On how the move came about, Burkardt revealed that Eintracht first showed interest in the winter.
“The first contact came last winter, but I wanted to finish the season with Mainz. After the season, I made my decision. Eintracht made a significant effort to sign me, which gave me a great feeling.
“I wanted everything to be handled properly – to say goodbye respectfully and to start at the new club with great anticipation. I’m happy with the positive response.”
