Swansea City and Bristol City are both interested in signing Arsenal striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji in the summer transfer window.

That's according to a report from Football Insider, who say that clubs overseas are also taking an interest in the 21-year-old.

Oyedeji has come through the youth ranks with the Gunners, but is yet to make his senior debut for the Premier League club.

He does however, already have some first-team football under his belt. The striker spent the second-half of the 2022/23 season on loan with Accrington Stanley, as they were relegated from League One.

The Arsenal academy graduate then returned to the third-tier of English football last summer, when he signed on loan for Cheltenham Town, before being recalled in January.

Although he has scored on a consistent basis for the Gunners at youth level, Oyedeji is still waiting to score his first senior goal.

Despite that, it appears as if he is attracting some significant interest from elsewhere, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Championship duo keen on Arsenal striker

As per this latest update, both Bristol City and Swansea are keen to sign the striker in the summer.

It is thought that Oyedeji has caught the eye with his impressive performances at youth level for Arsenal in the second-half of this season.

But after failing to get his chance at senior level with Mikel Arteta's side, he is expected to move on when the transfer market opens again.

However, those two Championship clubs could face competition to sign the 21-year-old. German second-tier sides Schalke and Nurnberg are also among those credited with an interest in the striker.

Both Bristol City and Swansea secured comfortable mid-table finishes in the Championship this season.

Bristol City ended the campaign 11th in the standings, 11 points adrift of the play-offs, with the Swans five points further back in 14th come the end of the campaign.

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji move could be a gamble

It does feel as though the likes of Swansea and Bristol City would be taking something of a risk if they were to make a move to sign Oyedeji this summer.

Obviously, any club is going to want to add to their ranks when the window is open, and particularly with some extra attacking firepower, given the obvious importance of a goalscoring threat.

As a result, targeting a new striker could be understandable, but you do wonder if Oyedeji is the right man to fill that role for one of these clubs, even if coming through the ranks at a club such as Arsenal highlights the potential he possesses.

The 21-year-old has very little first-team experience, none of which is at Championship level, and he is yet to find his touch in front of goal while playing at League One.

That therefore, would raise some considerable questions about whether he would be able to make the required impact in front of goal in the Championship for either Swansea or Bristol City.

With that in mind, you do wonder whether there may be other alternative options that these two Championship clubs may be better off targeting over Oyedeji over the course of the next few months.
