Brighton & Hove Albion sign Chelsea defender Mpomé | OneFootball

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Chelsea defender Maelys Mpomé on a permanent deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Seagulls this afternoon.

The 22-year-old defender joined Chelsea from French Arkema Première Ligue club Montpellier HSC last summer but she found minutes hard to come by with The Blues. Mpomé made eight appearances in total for Chelsea in all competitions, helping the club to secure a domestic treble.

In addition to her spells with Montpellier HSC and Chelsea, Mpomé has also turned out for French side VGA Saint-Maur earlier in her career.

On the international stage, Mpomé has represented France at various youth levels up to and including Under-23 level.

Mpomé will now be hoping to fully-establish herself in the English game with Brighton & Hove Albion.

After adding Mpomé to his squad, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Dario Vidošić said “We’re pleased to have Maelys with us. She’s had some exposure to the WSL already and we feel she can really develop with us. She’s a versatile defender with a lot of good attributes and we’re looking forward to working with her.”

Mpomé is Brighton & Hove Albion’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
