Manchester United have learnt that Brighton and Hove Albion will demand around £100 million for Joao Pedro.
The Red Devils have been looking at options to bolster their stuttering attack.
Ruben Amorim has switched the formation to a 3-4-3 and this has changed the type of attacking player that United need, utilising two number tens rather than more traditional inverted wingers.
This has thrown into doubt the future of players like Marcus Rashford and Antony and one player the Red Devils seem to admire is Pedro.
United were linked to the player as recently as yesterday, with reports claiming that they were prepared to go head-to-head with eternal foes Liverpool for the player’s signature.
Pedro was incredible last season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions and has impressed once again this season albeit not being as prolific in front of goal, with four strikes to his name.
However, TBR Football report that there could be a major spanner in the works for both United and Liverpool.
“TBR Football understands that Brighton would demand close to £100 million for star striker Joao Pedro,” the outlet says.
What’s more, “they have no plans to let him leave in the near future.”
The Red Devils find themselves in a precarious situation surrounding PSR financial rules, especially with all the compensation they have had to pay out this season to replace Erik ten Hag and his staff and buy out most of Sporting Lisbon’s to accompany Amorim to Old Trafford.
Therefore, it is hard to imagine a world where they could afford to spend £100 million on any player, never mind Joao Pedro.
In addition, with Brighton flying high in the Premier League table and on course for European football next season, the 23 year old also might see it in his best interest to stay at the American Express Stadium for the time being.
