Parker is one of three candidates reportedly being lined up to replace Thomas Frank

Scott Parker has reportedly been shortlisted for the soon-to-be vacant manager’s role at Brentford.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that Parker is one of three men currently being considered for the role.

Current boss Thomas Frank is widely expected to depart for Tottenham Hotspur in the coming days, replacing the recently sacked Ange Postecoglou, but this move has not yet been made official.

It would be a significant blow to Parker’s current side, Burnley, who he won promotion with last term with a record-breaking defence that conceded only 16 times in 46 games.

Parker on Brentford’s radar

Parker is believed to be one of three candidates Brentford are considering, with the other two names not yet revealed by Romano, but the journalist reports that Parker is still "happy" at Burnley.

Burnley, or potentially Brentford, will come as the 44-year-old’s third Premier League assignment of his managerial career, with Fulham and Bournemouth also on his record.

He was promoted from the Championship with both of those former clubs. However, a move away from Burnley at this point would be the first time he hasn’t carried one of his promoted sides through to the higher tier.

Parker is under contract at Turf Moor until the summer of 2027, having signed a three-year deal when he arrived at the club last year.

Brentford is not as easy as it may seem

Brentford is often one of the first clubs mentioned when discussing well-run football establishments, but it does not mean Parker’s task would be easy there.

Already, they have lost first-choice goalkeeper Mark Flekken which, whilst being replaced by exciting prospect Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool, is a big transition.

Then there is the intense interest in key attacker Bryan Mbeumo from the likes of Manchester United, the Cameroon international having been involved in 27 of their Premier League goals last season.

And that’s before mentioning the sizeable shoes of Frank that Parker would have to fill.

Frank joined the Bees in 2016 as an assistant, before being appointed head coach in 2018, while they were still in the Championship.

Not only did he oversee their promotion, but he also managed to establish Brentford as a Premier League regular, able to compete with some of the biggest sides in the country, not dissimilar to the task Clarets fans are hoping Parker will complete at Turf Moor.

Taking over from Frank, who has as strong a reputation at Brentford as one could hope for, would be a mammoth assignment for Parker, but given their resources and recruitment talents, it may prove a difficult offer to refuse.
