Brentford captain Christian Norgaard has signed a new contract at the club running until 2027.
The Bees and Norgaard were both keen for an agreement to be reached. His current deal was set to expire this summer, though the club retained an option to trigger a one-year extension.
Instead, he is understood to have now committed his longer-term future to Brentford by signing a new straight two-year contract.
The 31-year-old spoke about his contract situation while away on international duty with Denmark last week.
“It's very positive,” he said. “It's going the right way, and I'm sure we'll find a solution so I'm here after the season, too.”
Following discussions over a number of weeks between the club and his representatives, the defensive midfielder has now put pen to paper on the new deal.
Norgaard has become an integral part of the culture of Brentford both on and off the pitch since joining for a fee of less than £3million from Serie A side Fiorentina in 2019.
He has missed just four Premier League matches for the Bees this season. Appearances in both the home and away legs against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals this month took his tally of senior caps for the Danish national team to 34.
