There could be some interesting developments for Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund who has seemingly won himself a new suitor from Italy.

The Danish centre-forward is coming off an abysmal campaign. While the season has been described as one of the worst in the club’s history, Hojlund has been particularly woeful, as he only managed to muster four goals in the Premier League. In his column for CaughtOffside, Stan Collymore described him as a ‘shattered’ player.

This poor return has prompted Man Utd to embark on an endless quest to find a new No.9, one that has yet to bear its fruits. On the other hand, INEOS are open to sending the 22-year-old away from Carrington.

While Hojlund hasn’t been added to the list of players deemed surplus to requirements (this only includes Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Garnacho and Malacia), United are certainly willing to listen to offers.

In recent weeks, several Italian clubs have shown interest in bringing the former Atalanta man back to Serie A. While Juventus and Napoli were mentioned as potential destinations, Inter Milan represented Hojlund’s most keen admirers.

Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri’s interest in the misfiring striker has recently dwindled, especially after signing another young forward in the shape of Ange-Yoan Bonny.

But according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Hojlund now has a new suitor in the shape of Roma.

Gian Piero Gasperini wants Hojlund at Roma

In his interview with Danish site Tipsbladet (via OneFootball), the Italian journalist revealed that the Giallorossi will launch an onslaught in the coming days in the hopes of acquiring the services of the young Man United forward.

As the source explains, Gian Piero Gasperini still holds Hojlund in high esteem, having coached him at Atalanta, so he’ll be happy to reunite with his former pupil in the Italian capital.

Nevertheless, Roma would struggle to meet Man Utd’s asking price of £40 million, so they’ll be looking to acquire the player’s services on an initial loan deal that could include an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season.
