Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Borussia Dortmund will try again in the summer to sign Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki.

In the winter, Dortmund tried twice to bring the French youth international to the club, but Lyon’s owner John Textor proved a tough individual to negotiate with. Despite the failed attempt, Dortmund will try again in the summer.

The summer window is expected to be a period of upheaval at the Westfalenstadion, and the 21-year-old is expected to be Dortmund’s star signing. Cherki’s contract at Lyon expires in 2026, and this could be Lyon’s last chance to sell him, especially with their financial struggles.

The fee for this summer is said to be around €30m, but Dortmund could face competition from fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, who are looking for a player who can play alongside Florian Wirtz next season before succeeding him a year later.

Cherki can play on the wing and through the middle. Central-attacking midfield is a problem area for Dortmund, especially with Julian Brandt underperforming and Giovanni Reyna not being good enough. Cherki could prove an upgrade.
