Wanderers underwhelmed in League One throughout the 2024-25 season, ending it in 8th place in the table but ten points short of a place in the play-offs.

As such, rebuilding the squad is imperative this season if the Trotters are to improve upon last season and challenge for a return to the Championship following an absence of six years, and the club's attention has now been drawn to a 24-year-old striker who's just been released by his club.

Bolton will not be alone in their pursuit of David Toshevski

The news agency Hayters report that Bolton Wanderers are interested in signing the former Austria Klagenfurt striker David Toshevski, who is a free agent following his release by the Austrian Bundesliga club at the end of the 2024-25 season.

But Bolton are not alone in their pursuit of the target man. Hayters report that there is plenty of interest in Toshevski, including "other British clubs, including Championship sides, as well as elsewhere."

Toshevski made his international debut for North Macedonia earlier in 2025, coming off the bench in their 3-0 World Cup qualifier win away to Liechtenstein. He scored ten goals in 26 matches for Austria Klagenfurt in all competitions throughout the 2024-25 season, which ended in relegation for his club through the play-offs after they finished 9th in the 12-team league.

Bolton may face challenges from the Championship for Toshevski's services

Born in Skopje, David Toshevski started his career in Macedonia with FK Rabotnichki before moving to Russia to join FC Rostov in 2020. Following spells on loan elsewhere in Russia, Poland and Slovakia, he moved to Austria Klagenfurt in the January transfer window, spending the second half of the 2023-24 season back out on loan in Croatia with their partner club HNK Šibenik before returning to Austria for the 2024-25 season.

Despite his team's underwhelming performance in the Austrian Bundesliga throughout the 2024-25 season, Toshevski did enough to earn himself an international call-up, and the fact that there are other clubs reported to also be monitoring him is proof of how highly thought of he is.

But with reports also suggesting that Championship clubs could be interested in his services, as well as from other European clubs, Bolton may find that they face a challenge to persuade the striker to sign with them. Players usually want to play at the highest level they can, and if clubs a division above them do end up making him an offer, it may be that he chooses the higher level.

The Macedonian striker is 6'2" tall, and his physicality would add an extra dimension to Bolton's attacking play, were he to make the move to The Toughsheet Community Stadium for the 2025-26 season.
