Birmingham City have completed the signing of Australian international midfielder Emily van Egmond on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from the Blues this evening.

The 31-year-old joins Birmingham City off the back of a short spell in the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with San Diego Wave. Van Egmond made 26 NWSL appearances for Wave in which she scored one goal.

The midfielder has enjoyed a lengthy career which has seen her represent 13 different clubs. Van Egmond has played her football in Australia, Denmark, the United States, Germany and England. Her previous spell in the English game came with West Ham United in 2020 and 2021.

On the international stage, Van Egmond has been capped by Australia on 153 occasions while she has scored 31 goals for her country.

After joining Birmingham City, Van Egmond said “I’m happy to be here. I can’t wait to get started. When Birmingham came to me, I loved the ambition.

“They are top of the table right now, looking to get promoted, and I just thought what an opportunity to come to a great club and be part of something exciting.”

Van Egmond is Birmingham City’s second transfer deadline day signing.
