Hibernian are reportedly in talks over a deadline day deal for Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes.

Hibernian are reportedly in talks to sign Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes on loan before the end of the summer transfer window.

That's according to journalist Pete O'Rourke, who claims that Hibernian are hoping to beat the deadline to secure a last-minute loan deal for Dykes, but there are also a number of other clubs chasing the Birmingham man.

Dykes joined the Blues from Queens Park Rangers last summer for a fee of £1 million, but he scored just five goals in 32 appearances for the Midlands outfit last season as they won the League One title.

The 29-year-old's game time at Birmingham has remained limited this season, with all four of his appearances in the Championship so far coming as a substitute, but he did make one crucial contribution for Chris Davies' side as he scored a 98th-minute winner in the 2-1 victory at Blackburn Rovers last month.

However, despite that, Dykes looks set to be allowed to depart St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park before tonight's transfer deadline, and Hibernian have extra time to get a deal over the line for the Scotland international.

The transfer window slams shut at 7pm on Monday night for English clubs, and the earlier-than-usual deadline has proven to be costly for Birmingham, with the club said to have run out of time to complete the £3 million signing of Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang.

However, Scottish Premiership clubs have until 11pm tonight to conclude their summer transfer business, and that means Hibernian still have time to finalise a deal that would see Dykes arrive at Easter Road.

Dykes is no stranger to Scottish football having scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 appearances for Livingston prior to his move to Queens Park Rangers in 2020, while he has also netted nine times in 42 games for the national team.

After five years in England, Dykes could now be set to move back north of the border with Hibernian, who currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership table after picking up five points from their opening three games of the campaign.

Hibernian are reportedly not the only club looking to agree a deal for Dykes before the deadline, and while it is unclear at this stage who his other suitors are, it seems likely that they will also be from Scotland given that the closure of the window for English clubs is fast approaching.

Dykes was an eye-catching signing for Birmingham in League One last summer, but it is fair to say it has not quite worked out for him at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

Given that Dykes' minutes are likely to be restricted this season, it makes sense for him to depart in order to gain regular minutes elsewhere, but he has proven that he could be a useful option for Davies to have in the squad during the early weeks of the campaign.

The Blues have scored just three goals from open play in their first four league games, and an experienced Championship performer like Dykes could help ease their goalscoring problems, so Davies is facing a big decision on whether to give the green light for him to depart in the coming hours.
