Vini Souza has two years remaining on his current Sheffield United contract
Vini Souza has decided he wants to leave Sheffield United this summer following their play-off final defeat to Sunderland.
According to Spanish outlet AS, the Brazilian is ready to move on from Bramall Lane as he seeks a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Souza was a key figure for Chris Wilder’s side last season, featuring 35 times in the regular campaign, as well as in all three of their play-off clashes.
The 25-year-old also made 36 appearances in the Premier League for the Yorkshire outfit during the 2023/24 campaign, becoming a fan favourite in that time for his impressive level of performances.
It has been reported that Souza is eyeing a move away from Sheffield United this summer after their failure to gain promotion to the Premier League.
It’s understood that the midfielder is beginning to attract interest from clubs in both the Premier League, as well as La Liga.
It remains to be seen what kind of figure could potentially convince the Blades to cash in on such a key part of the first team squad.
It is believed that Souza is keen to make a switch in a bid to break into Ancelotti’s plans for the Brazil national squad ahead of the World Cup in North America next year.
Souza was left out of his initial squad for the upcoming June matches, his first selection since being appointed as manager.
The Brazilian has a contract with Sheffield United until the summer of 2027, meaning there is no immediate pressure on the club to sell this transfer window.
But a 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the play-off final last Saturday has ensured the club will be spending at least one more year in the second tier of English football after coming third in the table.
The defeat to Sunderland at Wembley was always going to expose Sheffield United to the possibility of losing key players.
Souza attracting top flight interest from England and Spain is no surprise, as he has shown he can play at that level with his performances this year.
The midfielder has been a key part of Wilder’s plans, so it will have to take a hefty sum to convince them to cash in, potentially around the £20 to 25 million mark.
It remains to be seen whether an offer of that size will arrive, but the Blades do have leverage in negotiations this summer due to the time left on his contract.
