“Big surprise” – Chelsea legend has perfect choice for his outstanding player of the year | OneFootball

DR Football’s golf tournament somewhere in the world has already produced some interesting content in the form of John Terry’s thoughts on the season so far at Chelsea.

We covered that, now they’ve dug up his thoughts on the top players for the Blues in this campaign:

“Cole sticks out straight away. I think Enzo’s [Fernandez] been very good. Noni [Madueke], I think he’s done well this year. He’s done a lot better, been really direct,” Terry said.

“I like [Pedro] Neto as well, so those kind of three or four would be my top.”

He missed out Moises Caicedo, the man most Blues would have as their number 1 player of the season candidate now that Cole Palmer’s form has dropped a little. Perhaps JT is spending too much time on the golf course and not enough time watching Enzo Maresca’s Blues? We couldn’t blame him for that, not recently anyway.

Zola doesn’t leave out midfielder powerhouse

Gianfranco Zola speaks about Moises Caicedo.

One person who didn’t forget Caicedo, and clearly has been paying attention, was fellow Blues legend Gianfranco Zola. He put the Ecuador star head and shoulders above everyone else, noting him improvement from last season as key.

Zola mentioned Palmer right off the bat, but his thoughts on Caicedo were perhaps more interesting:

“Caicedo, big surprise because last year when he came, probably to adapt, he didn’t do as well as he’s doing this year. This year he’s been really, really good. The other one, I think Neto has been doing extremely well. Very good, very direct, also good team player as well.”

It’s interesting that they both mention Neto – it feels like his recent switch to playing up top is giving his season a favourable sheen – before that most people seemed a little disappointed by his impact.
