Chelsea rate Benoit Badiashile very highly and believe he’s a signing that’s slipped under the radar according to Ben Jacobs.

Badiashille is expected to return to action in September having picked up an injury in the Club World Cup last 16 tie against Benfica.

The Frenchman could have an important role next season, after the Blues were rocked by the news Levi Colwill will miss most of the season after suffering an ACL injury.

Chelsea rate Badiashile highly

Chelsea now face the difficult decision of whether to trust their current options or go into the market to replace Colwill before the end of the window.

However, it’s been reported Chelsea won’t be replacing Colwill, and it’s believed they trust the defensive depth in the squad.

Badiashile is one of the options to cover for Colwill, but the 24-year-old has had a tough time recently, and has struggled to rediscover his impressive form from his first six months at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea signed Badiashile from Monaco in a deal worth around £32m in January 2023, but he’s struggled with injury issues over the past couple of seasons, and has almost become somewhat of a forgotten man.

Despite being linked with a move away it appears Badiashile will remain at the club, and Jacobs has provided an update.

“Chelsea rate Benoit Badiashile very highly and a lot of people I speak to at Chelsea who have seen this guy train, see his demeanour and work ethic think he’s a signing who’s slipped under the radar a bit,” he said on a Playback stream with Chelsea content creator Alex Goldberg.

A big season for Wesley Fofana

It’s also a big season for Wesley Fofana whose Chelsea career has been plagued by injury, and he really needs to stay fit for as much of the upcoming campaign as possible.

The loss of Colwill is a major blow, but it can be somewhat softened if Fofana can keep himself fit and make a big contribution on the pitch.

Providing Fofana and Badiashile stay fit Chelsea should have enough cover to cope, but taking the chance on their fitness is a gamble, and only time will tell if it was one worth taking.
