Chelsea pushed for an early opener at Kingsmeadow and Sandy Baltimore nearly scored directly from a corner, but Rachael Laws punched away the audacious attempt.

With their first attack of the game, Liverpool stunned Chelsea as Olivia Smith raced onto Marie Höbinger's through ball and finished into the bottom corner.

Chelsea equalised minutes before half time as Erin Cuthbert's looping volley found the net.

The Blues probed for a second after the break and Aggie Beever-Jones' close-range strike was saved by Laws.

In the final minutes, Liverpool almost sprung another surprise when Taylor Hinds' curling shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Hannah Hampton.

Just as the game was heading towards extra time, Beever-Jones rose to meet Baltimore's cross to send the Blues into their fourth FA Cup final in five seasons.

It was heartbreak for a spirited Liverpool, who were denied their first major cup final appearance since 1996.
