Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Fulham to sign Joao Palhinha, according to the Guardian.

The midfielder was a transfer target for Bayern last summer but they were unable to get a deal over the line on deadline day despite Palhinha travelling to Munich in anticipation of a move.

Palhinha, who subsequently signed a new deal with Fulham, was wanted by Bayern in January. They have now struck a deal with Fulham worth an initial €51 million plus a further €5m in add-ons.

He is expected to sign a four-year deal, and his medicals will be held following the conclusion of Portugal’s European Championship campaign in Germany.

The 28-year-old has been a key performer for his country en route to the quarter-final of the ongoing tournament, where they will face France on Friday.

Palhinha is one of several new players expected at the Allianz Arena this summer.

Bayern are close to signing Michael Olise and Xavi Simons from Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig respectively, while Jonathan Tah is also being eyed.

They are keen to bounce back from a disappointing campaign which saw them finish a whopping 18 points adrift of Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

New head coach Vincent Kompany will be looking to reclaim his side’s league crown off the back of a first trophyless season in 12 years at the Allianz Arena.
