Bayern Munich survived a scare against Celtic to book their place in the last-16 of the Champions League this evening.
The hosts secured a 1-1 draw to progress 3-2 on aggregate. They will face either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the next round.
Bayern had claimed an unconvincing victory in the first leg and looked leggy in the first half of the second fixture.
They were lucky not to be behind at the break, with Daizen Maeda and teammate Nicolas Kuhn coming close.
Celtic took advantage of some sloppy defending to go in front on the night, with Nicolas Kuhn slotting home past Manuel Neuer in the second half.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany tried to will his side back into the game. They began to exert their dominance, coming close to restoring parity via Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka.
Alphonso Davies eventually broke Celtic’s hearts with a goal in the fourth minute of additional time to send the Scottish Premiership champions out of Europe.
Atletico and Bayern will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing Kompany’s lethargic Bayern side. They have been awful defensively and lacking bite in attack.
Celtic produced a brave effort, but suffered another premature exit from the Champions League. They have not reached the last 16 since 2013.
