Bayer Leverkusen eager to hand Victor Boniface a contract extension in bid to ward off Man United | OneFootball

Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly prepared to hand Victor Boniface a contract extension amidst Manchester United’s interest in his services.

Sky Germany recently revealed that Boniface is a target for United even as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggle to impress.

Hojlund and Zirkzee have managed just three goals in 31 appearances between themselves – an incredibly poor return for a team harbouring ambitions of challenging for the most prestigious trophies and titles.

In comparison, Boniface has so far this term plundered an impressive eight goals in 15 matches across all competitions.

The Nigerian superstar played a crucial part last season as Leverkusen went unbeaten, on their way to winning the Bundesliga.

At the moment, Boniface is recovering from an injury sustained in this month’s international break. He is unlikely to return to action before the turn of the year but that hasn’t stopped him from being linked to United.

According to German news outlet BILD, Leverkusen are ready to give him a one-year extension, extending his stay with them until 2029.

His current deal ends in the summer of 2028, meaning he has about four years left but the fact that Leverkusen are already contemplating an extension suggests they’re wary of United’s overtures.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, Fichajes relayed that the 23-year-old talisman has turned down the possibility of sealing a blockbuster transfer to Old Trafford.

“Victor Boniface, one of the emerging stars of Bayer Leverkusen, has decided to rule out any possibility of joining Manchester United in the next transfer market. The young forward’s refusal represents a blow to the English club’s plans, as they saw him as a solution to strengthen their attack for the 2025 season.”

“The Nigerian seems clear that his future is not at Old Trafford.”

In addition to United, Chelsea have also been mentioned as an interested party in Boniface.
