Up next for FC Barcelona is a massive clash in the UEFA Champions League against a side that they have already beat twice this season. With Portuguese giants SL Benfica set to come to the Montjuic Stadium this time, Hansi Flick’s men will need to be ready. However, Barcelona have what it takes to win.
La Blaugrana have already showcased that quality this season, as they have travelled away to Benfica twice and have managed to outclass them on both occasions. However, no new game is like the previous one, and Barça can not afford to take them lightly.
While the last match against CA Osasuna was postponed due to rather tragic circumstances, this game is set to go ahead as planned. Fortunately for Barcelona, they have the form and momentum on their side to showcase their worth in this huge European encounter.
Over the course of the last five games, the Catalan giants have managed to win four times and draw once against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey. Interestingly, one of those four victories was against Benfica during the first leg of this Champions League Round of 16 tie.
Despite having gone a man down following Pau Cubarsi’s red card, which will also see him miss this second leg, Barcelona managed to show resilience. By putting forward a display of character that was nothing short of heroic, Barça managed to win against the Portuguese side at their home with a 1-0 victory.
However, SL Benfica will not be coming into this game without purpose. The Portuguese side believe they can mount a comeback at the Montjuic Stadium, and that is why they even rested key players ahead of this crucial fixture.
As for their form, they have won three games out of their last five. The other two results were a draw against AS Monaco and a loss against FC Barcelona. However, they have showcased that they have the ability to harm any side, including Hansi Flick’s team, with the quality and tactical expertise that they have.
The winner of this fixture across the aggregate score will then qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition. Over there, they will either face off against Borussia Dortmund or Lille, and Barcelona will do whatever it takes to make sure that they are the ones heading there.
