A long-time member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is preparing to bid farewell to the club.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Sergi Roberto as the player in question.
Versatile midfielder Roberto’s future, of course, has been thrown firmly back up in the air of late.
After it appeared as though a contract renewal was all but certain for the 32-year-old, Barca’s ongoing financial woes cast as much into serious doubt.
Roberto, for his part, had until recently always given his priority to the Blaugrana, the club with whom he has spent the entirety of his career.
As much, however, now appears to have changed.
Asked to wait until the summer’s latter weeks in the hopes of Barcelona getting their monetary situation back in order, the Spanish international has understandably put his own best interests first, to open exploratory discussions with other clubs.
And, if the latest update to have surfaced in the media on Friday is anything to go by, Roberto, for his part, appears to have accepted that his future now indeed lies away from the Camp Nou.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘Unless there is a radical change in the financial situation of the Blaugrana, the current captain of the club is assuming that his time at Barça is over.’
The Catalan native is ‘waiting’ for news from Barcelona whilst on his summer vacation, but does not expect a positive outcome, amid interest in his services on the part of the likes of Sevilla, Valencia, and Inter Milan.
