FC Barcelona’s transfer plans this summer continue to be heavily dictated by their fragile financial situation.

While the club are expected to complete the signing of Joan Garcia from Espanyol without major complications, other priority operations remain stuck.

Barça have identified Luis Diaz, Nico Williams, and Marcus Rashford as key targets for the position, but each deal faces hurdles related to high transfer fees or salary demands.

In this context, Barcelona will take any financial gains they get, such as Celta Vigo’s recent purchase of Ilaix Moriba.

Barcelona to gain from Moriba deal

Celta Vigo have triggered the €6 million purchase clause in Ilaix Moriba’s loan deal from RB Leipzig.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona, who sold the midfielder to Leipzig in 2021 while retaining a 10% sell-on clause, will receive €600,000 from the permanent transfer.

Moriba, once one of La Masia’s most promising midfielders, broke into the first team under Ronald Koeman and made 18 appearances in the 2020–21 season.

However, a contract standoff saw him sold to Leipzig, where he failed to make an impact. After underwhelming loan stints at Valencia and Getafe, the 22-year-old finally found form at Celta, playing a key role in their return to European football.

It may not be a windfall, but in a summer where every euro counts, Barça will happily take the extra funds.

As the summer progresses, it will be interesting to see if Barça can conjure up more revenue through such transactions.

Barcelona’s primary source of revenue, in fact, will be the sale of their own unwanted players, with the likes of Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre, and Andreas Christensen all finding themselves on the exit list.
