Two members of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona have moved to dedicate the club’s latest victory to former club doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia.
Carles Miñarro Garcia’s name has of course taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines over the last 48 hours.
This comes after the awful news was forthcoming that Barcelona’s first-team doctor had suddenly passed away.
The Blaugrana’s scheduled fixture against Osasuna over the weekend was, in turn, called off, but Hansi Flick’s troops were tasked with gathering themselves for a Champions League showdown with Benfica earlier this evening.
And, to their credit, Barca went on to respond in impressive fashion.
Owing to goals on the part of Raphinha (2) and Lamine Yamal, the Catalans booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League courtesy of a 3-1 victory.
And speaking to the media post-match, two of those to have played their part on Tuesday made clear that their triumph was in memory of the late Carles Miñarro Garcia.
First, Pedri explained:
“It was a difficult match, especially after what happened on Saturday. First of all, I want to send all my support to the family and friends of Dr. Miñarro. We will try to win everything for him.”
Midfield partner Gavi then went on to add:
“We send all our strength to the doctor’s family. This win and the rest of the season will be for him.”
