Barcelona make final decision on fresh Nico Williams swoop | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have made the definitive call not to renew their pursuit of Athletic Club star Nico Williams this summer.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the situation.

The name of wide-man Nico of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital throughout the summer transfer window in 2024.

This came after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old – fresh off a stellar showing at the European Championships – had been identified as a leading target on the part of the Barcelona brass.

Amid a search for reinforcements in the final third, Nico was identified as the ideal profile by those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

In the end, no such transfer was forthcoming, with the attacker having gone on to put pen to paper on a contract extension with Athletic.

And if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then the Barcelona train appears to have come and gone for Nico as a result.

‘Barça are not going to make any moves for Nico Williams. The refusal of Nico to go for Barça – something that Dani Olmo did – cooled Joan Laporta and Deco for this summer, since the Barça sporting director always liked Luis Díaz more.’
