With the January transfer window just around the corner, Barcelona are currently scrambling for new economic levers that could help them boost their revenue ahead of the new year.

The club are anticipating a few fresh sources of revenue, including the return to the old stadium as well as the inflows from player sales.

Another area where Barcelona appear to be doing well is the TV broadcasting department.

Barcelona shine bright on TV

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are leading the pack in La Liga, in terms of revenue earned from TV broadcasting.

During the 2023/24 campaign, Barça earned a total of €162.4 million through TV broadcasting rights, higher than any other Spanish club.

Real Madrid were second with €159 million, with Atletico Madrid rounding out the podium with an inflow of €117 million.

This figure is slightly higher than what Barcelona earned during the 2022/23 campaign when the Catalans earned €160 million – lower than Real Madrid’s €161 million.

The slight change can be credited to various different factors, though a large portion of it is already fixed.

Half of the revenue earned by La Liga is shared equally among all clubs. 25% depends on the sporting performances of the last five seasons.

The remainder of the revenue depends on several factors, mostly revolving around how the club utilise the marketing, including ticket sales, and social media.

Another factor that also determines the final 25% payout is the availability of players in pre and post-match press conferences. Barcelona do very well in this aspect, whereas Real Madrid often block their players for post-match pressers.

This is perhaps the reason why Barcelona have slipped past Los Blancos in terms of the final payout, even though they lost out the league title during the 2023/24 campaign.
