The medical staff at La Liga giants Barcelona have made the call to delay the return to competitive duties of youngster Marc Bernal.
That’s according to Blaugrana insider Javier Miguel of Diario AS, who has this week provided an update on the situation.
Midfielder Bernal is for his part fresh off a return to group training, following almost a year on the sidelines.
After exploding onto the first-team stage early last season, the youngster suffered a devastating ACL injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the term.
Recent weeks, though, have seen the 18-year-old ramp up his recovery efforts, giving rise to hope of Bernal imminently taking to the pitch in a competitive setting.
Prior to the recent Joan Gamper Trophy match, it was even suggested that the Spaniard could be afforded some minutes off the bench.
In the end, however, as much did not take place.
And if the latest word stemming from Spain on Wednesday is anything to go by, then the Barcelona faithful will need to remain patient in hopes of seeing Bernal back in action.
As per a report from the aforementioned Javier Miguel:
‘Bernal is not expected to receive the medical OK until after the international break, coinciding with the first home game, against Valencia, in the week of September 13 or 14.’
