According to CuleMania, Barcelona defender Hector Fort is beginning to question his future at the club, with the youngster no longer ruling out a departure this summer.

Once regarded as one of La Masia’s most exciting prospects, the right-back now finds himself on the fringes of Hansi Flick’s plans, and his path into the first team looks increasingly uncertain.

While Fort has made 14 appearances for Barcelona this season, it is clear that Flick does not yet fully trust the 18-year-old.

The German coach believes Fort still needs to develop physically before he can become a reliable option at the senior level.

As a result, the full-back’s situation has triggered internal conversations within the club about how best to manage his next steps.

Three possible scenarios

At this stage, three options are reportedly on the table: a loan to gain regular first-team football, a permanent sale with a buy-back clause, or staying at the club with a lesser role.

Fort himself is said to be worried about the direction of his career and has opened up to the idea of leaving Barça, even temporarily.

The player has remained professional and has not spoken out publicly, but those close to him claim he is growing frustrated with his lack of opportunities.

Yamal link and dressing room dynamics

Another point of interest is Fort’s close friendship with Lamine Yamal. Some inside the club reportedly feel that Fort may not be the best influence on the young star, although no specific incidents have been cited.

Furthermore, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco will have to make a key decision regarding Fort this summer, mostly because  Flick is looking for a right-back with more experience and consistency.

Jules Kounde has performed admirably in the role, but he will need to rest at some point. The club is looking into alternatives such as Andrei Rațiu and Jeremie Frimpong, though price tags could be a significant obstacle.

If a new right-back is brought in, Fort’s chances of staying and playing regular football at Barça will likely diminish even further, which can lead to his exit.
