FC Barcelona are in a euphoric state after winning their first trophy of the Hansi Flick era on Sunday night, when they defeated Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final.

It was a tremendous performance from the Blaugrana stars as they dominated their opponents from start to finish despite facing a couple of setbacks during the match in the form of Inigo Martinez’s injury and Wojciech Szczesny’s red card.

Martinez out for five weeks

Martinez, 33, had to be taken off just before the half-hour mark after he went down with what seemed to be a muscle problem.

Now, Javi Miguel of AS has brought forward an update on the veteran defender’s injury and the potential recovery time for him.

After carrying out initial tests, the Barça medical staff believes that the Basque centre-back suffered a tear in the hamstring muscle of his right leg. It would sideline the senior defender for a period of five weeks.

More tests and scans are expected to be conducted on Tuesday at which point a better and clearer picture of his injury and the possible time out on the sidelines should emerge.

However, at the moment, the medical staff diagnosed a tear in the biceps femoris of the right leg that could keep him out for more than a month.

This will be a matter of concern for Barcelona considering that Martinez has been a regular fixture in the team this season and one of their most consistent performers.

Moreover, the injury to the senior defender could also impact the future of defender Ronald Araujo, who is seeking an exit from the club this month.
