Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is pushing for a return to action against Rayo Vallecano after making progress in his recovery from an ankle contusion.
According to a recent report from SPORT, it has been learned that the Uruguayan centre-back participated in a portion of the team’s training session, indicating positive steps towards full fitness.
However, the outlet also mentioned that he is not yet completely free from discomfort following the knock he sustained in the match against Sevilla.
Araujo was forced off the pitch last weekend after taking a heavy blow to his ankle. Fortunately, medical tests conducted in Barcelona ruled out any serious injury, but the defender has still been struggling with lingering pain.

Despite this, he was able to train with the squad on Saturday, albeit in a limited capacity. The final decision on his availability will depend on how he responds to training in the coming hours.
Hansi Flick has made it clear that he is cautious when it comes to risking players who are not fully fit. If Araujo manages to complete Sunday’s training session without any issues, there is a possibility that he will be included in the squad for matchday 24 of La Liga.
Interestingly, given the manager’s approach and the options available in defence, it is highly unlikely that Araujo will be in the starting lineup.
Barcelona have enough depth at centre-back, with Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Eric Garcia all available for selection. With no urgent need to rush Araujo back, Flick is expected to take a measured approach to his return.
The final call will be made after assessing the defender’s condition following the next training session, but unless there is a major surprise, he is expected to start from the bench if included in the squad at all.
