FC Barcelona under Hansi Flick this tenure have scored goals for fun, and one main reason for this has been the prolific form of their striker, Robert Lewandowski. The Polish veteran has turned back the clock with his performances this season.

Despite being on the wrong side of his 30s, at 36, the ex-Bayern Munich marksman is showing no signs of slowing down. Yes, a few facets of his overall game have shown decline and understandably so, but his finishing is still very much on point.

Barcelona have also massively benefited from finding a very able deputy to the Pole in Ferran Torres, who is a completely different number nine stylistically. Thus, Hansi Flick has had the opportunity to choose between the two based on game states.

However, despite Lewandowski’s excellent performances, Barcelona will know that the time to replace him is not too far away, and as per Italian newspaper Tuttosport via Fichajes, the Catalan club is eyeing a surprise move for Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.

Formerly of Juventus, the Italian number nine has been touted as a huge talent for quite some time now, but at 25, he seems to finally be hitting the heights once envisioned for him, and he has been very clinical for the Serie A side this season.

Kean has netted 23 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions. On its own, these aren’t numbers to be scoffed at, but in comparison to Robert Lewandowski’s numbers, there isn’t much to say. That said, the context of the teams also matters.

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have been a chance-creating machine, and when you play in such a team, the opportunity to score more goals arises. That said, should the Catalan club be serious in their pursuit of Moise Kean, they are betting more on potential than on track record.

The good thing for Barcelona is that Lewandowski is likely to stay at Barcelona for another season, and with him and Ferran Torres, the signing of a new striker isn’t necessarily a priority. The Catalan club can wait another 12 months and make a more informed decision. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
