A head-turning update on the ongoing saga surrounding the future of Athletic Club star Nico Williams has on Wednesday surfaced online.
This comes amid confirmation that those behind the scenes at Athletic are ready to take unprecedented action to stave off the interest of La Liga rivals Barcelona.
It is of course common knowledge at this point that Barca have reignited their pursuit of wide-man Nico’s signature in a major way.
In fact, with an agreement on the terms of a contract already in place with the 22-year-old, all that remains is for the Blaugrana to deposit Nico’s release clause with La Liga.
Or so it seemed…
As revealed by Cadena SER on Wednesday, Athletic Club have absolutely no intention of allowing their star winger to depart without a fight.
The Basque outfit are ready to ‘confront’ their Barcelona counterparts if necessary, amid the assurance on the part of the former that the Camp Nou board are not currently operating within the 1:1 rule.
SER, in fact, go as far as to claim that:
‘Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte and general manager Jon Berasategi are in Madrid for a matter related to the Spanish Football League. They will take the opportunity to inform the Spanish Football Federation and the Professional Football League that they intend to audit all of FC Barcelona’s financial operations.’
