Over the summer, rumors swirled that Paris Saint-Germain was considering Lamine Yamal as a possible successor to Kylian Mbappé. However, FC Barcelona are intent on keeping the young talent, working on a contract extension with a salary designed to keep him happy and ward off interest from other clubs.

According to Mundo Deportivo, PSG was reportedly prepared to break its own transfer record, offering up to €250 million—exceeding the €222 million they previously spent—to bring Yamal on board.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also revealed last month the timeline in which PSG was ready to take an offensive approach towards Yamal.

Amid the rumors and the higher profile that Yamal has, the Spanish club’s sporting director, Deco, spoke with Mundo Deportivo about the interest the player is generating.

“It’s normal that a player like Lamine, or others we have, attracts interest from clubs; it’s normal,” Deco said (h/t Le10Sport). “We know the market and the clubs. Lamine is very young but very mature for his age.

“I can imagine and see that he is happy to be here. Given everything he has at Barça, I would dare say it’s very difficult to change clubs. And it’s not because I’m a Culé or because I’m the sporting director of the club.

“A player that Barça owns and who can have a spectacular story at the club, I don’t think he would trade it for another, but that’s something that depends on us. We are very happy with Lamine, he should be valued like the others and he should build his story. We are calm, there is no concern about that, but the club must do what it has to do.

“There’s nothing else to do. Even if you have contracts and clauses, the most important thing is that players feel happy and comfortable and want to make history at the club, that’s the most important thing.”

It will be interesting to see if Yamal decides to stay his entire career or, at some point, he departs for a new challenge.
