Pedri Gonzalez captained the FC Barcelona team last night but could not lead his team to a victory in this game. After the injury suffered by Marc-Andre Ter Stegen against Villarreal, and with Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong already on the sidelines, Raphinha took the captain’s armband for the game against Getafe.

But against Osasuna, the Brazilian was also rested, and thus Pedri got the armband as he is the fifth captain of the team.

However, this was ultimately not an auspicious evening for him, as his side had to endure their first league defeat of the season. Still, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, he talked to the media after the game and highlighted the issues faced by Barcelona in this match:

“We weren’t good in the first half; we didn’t start the game well, and the second goal punished us. In the second half, we pushed more for the game and deserved a bit more, but they hurt us on the counter attack.”

The midfielder was also not looking for any excuses, even though Barcelona had up to eight players injured, and several other starters resting for this match: “It’s normal to have rotations; there are many games, but that’s not an excuse.”

Pedri went on to highlight some of the points of his disagreement with the referee in this media talk and pointed out the foul that should have cost Osasuna:

“The 2-0 at halftime punished us. For me, there was a very clear foul on Pau Víctor before that goal, and I don’t understand why it wasn’t called because in Vallecas they took a goal away from us for a similar play. And there’s also a clear penalty on Lamine at the end.”

Overall, this was a rather forgettable night for FC Barcelona, especially after the results that they have got since the start of this season. Hopefully, the Catalans and Pedri will be able to get back on winning ways in the upcoming games, with another UCL encounter awaiting them this week.
