FC Barcelona have already won the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup titles so far this season, and remain on track to win the UEFA Champions League and La Liga as well.

Even if they are not able to win these two latter titles, this season will be remembered quite well by the fans, as the Blaugranes have played highly entertaining football and have been among the very best sides in Europe.

Another aspect of this season that the Catalans will particularly remember going forward is their team’s record against their arch-rivals, Real Madrid.

So far, the two teams have played thrice this season, once in La Liga, then in the Spanish Super Cup final, and their latest meeting was in the final of the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid can create an unwanted record

But there is a fourth El Clasico still to come, and as SPORT has noted, another Barcelona victory in this match would create a highly undesirable and humiliating record for Real Madrid.

This would only be the second time in their history that the Merengues have lost to the Blaugranes four times in a single season. The last time it happened was back in the 1982-83 season, when the two teams faced each other five times. Four of these meetings ended in the Catalans’ favor, while one ended in a 2-2 draw.

But if Barcelona win the upcoming Clasico, they will get a 100% win record against their bitter rivals in a single season. This would be the first time the Blaugranes do so, while Real Madrid have done so twice in their history.

Once was only in the last season, when Carlo Ancelotti led the Merengue team to win both the league El Clasicos, and also the final of the Spanish Super Cup. Before that, they won all of their games over Barcelona back in 1936, twice in La Liga, and once in the final of the Copa del Presidente de la República.
