Atleti in trouble with home defeat to Lille

Lille masterminded a 3-1 win away at Atlético Madrid, with Jonathan David bagging a brace.

Atleti were ahead when Julian Álvarez pounced on a ponderous defensive error from Lille, and curled in a top finish when his run saw him one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Into the second half and Lille got their equaliser through a long range strike from the corner of the penalty area from Edon Zhegrova.

Lille were awarded a penalty when VAR spotted a foul from Koke inside the box, and David coolly stepped up to chip his effort in and put his side in front.

The Canadian substitute then sealed the win for Lille when his close-range effort was deflected in during the final minute of normal time.

Barcelona demolish Bayern Munich

Scorers: Raphinha 1′, 45′, 56′ Lewandowski 36′; Kane 18′

Raphinha was the star as Barcelona demolished Bayern Munich with the Brazilian firing in a hat-trick.

The home side got off to a dream start when a mistake at the back from Bayern saw Raphinha one-on-one with Manuel Neuer, and the stopper was powerless once the forward had ran around him and netted the simple finish.

Bayern hit back quickly though as Harry Kane netted a header from a Thomas Müller cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

It didn’t take long for the England striker to have his goal for real though, after a cross from the left from Serge Gnabry was stabbed home perfectly by Kane.

This thrilling encounter then took another twist as Neuer saved a shot from Fermín López, only for Robert Lewandowski to net the rebound against his former side.

On the stroke of half-time, Barcelona put daylight between them and their heavyweight opponents, as Raphinha latched onto a perfect cross-field pass from Marc Casadó and bent the finish in for his second of the evening.

This was the former Leeds man’s night, as a sublime ball from Lamine Yamal put Raphinha in another dangerous position and his run and finish across his body completed a stunning hat-trick.

Haaland brace sees Man City demolish Sparta Prague

Scorers: Foden 3′, Haaland 58′, 68′, Stones 64′, Nunes 88′ (PEN)

Manchester City cruised past Sparta Prague with a 5-0 win at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s men took the lead immediately when Phil Foden dribbled into the box and drilled the finish into the back of the net.

The second half began in the same fashion as the home side had the ball in the back of the net, but Nathan Aké’s effort was ruled out for handball.

It wouldn’t have been a Champions League night without an Erling Haaland goal though, and the Norwegian obliged with stunning scorpion kick to put his side two goals to the good.

City were in their stride, and the third was added by John Stones, with the defender supplying a looping header beyond goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen.

Haaland had his brace after a slick passing move from the home side, as the striker showed composure in the box to pick his moment and then pick his spot.

The home side completed the rout with a penalty from Matheus Nunes with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Liverpool continue their winning run

Liverpool continued their good start to the season under new boss Arne Slot with a 1-0 win over RB Leipzig.

The Reds took the lead when a Mo Salah header was poked over the line by Darwin Núñez.

Leipzig thought they had got their equaliser through Loïs Openda, but his attempt was ruled out for offside.

Feyenoord triumph over Benfica

Scorers: Ueda 12′, Milambo 33′; Aktürkoğlu 66′

Feyenoord took an impressive 2-1 win away at Benfica.

Brian Priske’s side struck first when Ayase Ueda fired in a first time finish that gave Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin no chance.

After Ueda had a goal disallowed, Feyenoord then scored their second after some quick feet from Antoni Milambo nutmegged Nicolás Otamendi which opened up the space to deliver a perfect curling finish.

Benfica pulled one back when Muhammed Kerem Aktürkoğlu slid in and helped the ball over the line after goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther could only parry the initial shot.

The Dutch side sealed their win with another late strike from Milambo, this time from the edge of the box after a cross from a set-piece.

Inter leave it late to beat Young Boys

Scorers: Thuram 90+3

Inter took a 1-0 win over Young Boys thanks to a stoppage time goal from Marcus Thuram.

Simone Inzaghi’s side had a penalty early in the second half, but Marko Arnautović had his attempt saved by ‘keeper David von Ballmoos, with the Young Boys stopper reacting quickly to also stop the rebound.

The Nerazzurri bagged the victory in stoppage time when Marcus Thuram converted a cross from Federico Dimarco.

Salzburg’s woes continue with loss to Zagreb

Scorers: Kulenović 49′, Petković 84′

Sent off: Alexander Schlager 66′

Dinamo Zagreb took a 2-1 win over RB Salzburg, who are still without a win in the Champions League.

The Croatians took the lead just after half-time, Sandro Kulenović benefiting from some loose marking as he slotted home from inside the box.

With Salzburg down to ten men, Zagreb extended their advantage thanks to a curling effort from Bruno Petković from the edge of the box.

Celtic battle to tough draw away at Atalanta

Celtic put in a determined performance to hold Atalanta to a 0-0 draw in Bergamo.

Home side Atalanta rattled the crossbar after 18 minutes, but Celtic just about survived to keep the scores at 0-0.

Working hard out of possession with a well-organised game plan, the SPFL side managed to keep a clean sheet despite 19 shots on goal from Atalanta.

Brest share spoils with Bayer Leverkusen

Scorers: Wirtz 24′; Lees-Melou 39′

Brest came back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Brest did well to keep things tight in the opening 15 minutes, as Alonso’s men struggled to find a way through.

Yet that only lasted so long as Florian Wirtz showed his quality with a powerful first-time shot from just outside the box that smashed into the back of the net.

The Ligue 1 side rallied after the setback and got their reward when Pierre Lees-Melou netted a powerful volley from the edge of the penalty area that was every bit as good as the goal scored by their opponent.

There was a late scare for Brest as Leverkusen could’ve had a 90th minute penalty when Jonas Hoffman was bundled over in the box, but VAR did not intervene on this occasion.

The European action continues on Thursday, as José Mourinho returns to former side Manchester United with Fenerbahçe in the Europa League.
