Chelsea ace Renato Veiga is moving closer to becoming a new Atletico Madrid player, per Marca.
The Blues put the Portuguese international on the chopping block, and he could switch clubs in the coming weeks.
Veiga arrived at Chelsea for €14 million last summer and was a mainstay in the first team in cup competitions and Europe. He impressed fans during his short stint at the club.
However, he wanted a starting spot in his favoured centre-back position and left Stamford Bridge searching for game time.
He joined Juventus in January and played a central role for them. Despite this, he is surplus to requirements at Chelsea.
Atletico made a second bid yesterday, and a deal for the £25,000 per week star is almost close to the finish line.
It is unclear why Chelsea want to keep injury-prone duo Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana rather than keep Veiga.
He showed remarkable promise during his first six months at the club. However, Chelsea are in the market for a player who can perform the same job.
The Blues are reportedly eyeing Ajax star Jorrel Hato as they bid to strengthen the left side of their defence.
Hato featured mostly at left-back but has deputised in the centre. The 19-year-old also captained the club, earning plaudits for his leadership qualities.
Elsewhere, Chelsea are also advancing with talks to sign Xavi Simons.
The Dutch star is attracting interest from multiple clubs, but he is reportedly keen on joining the Blues.
