The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are keen to secure the signing of a deep-lying midfielder before the winter transfer window slams shut.
That’s according to Marca, who have on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.
Atlético have endured a quiet January window to date, without a single addition to Diego Simeone’s high-flying squad.
Amid what has proven a fine campaign on the part of the Rojiblancos to date, the assumption, in turn, was that Atléti would head into the remainder of the term with the same group of players on their books.
As alluded to above, though, if the board at the Wanda Metropolitano has their way, then one late-window arrival could yet be on the cards.
As per a report from Marca:
‘The General Directorate of Football understands that there is still room to try to reinforce the position that, they understand at the club, is the most needed at this time: that of a positional midfielder, a 6.’
It is added that ‘a couple of options are on the table’, albeit with no specific names provided.
