Atlético Madrid & Villarreal to open transfer talks next week | OneFootball

The respective boards at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid and Villarreal are ready to sit down for negotiations over a potential summer transfer dealing over the days ahead.

That’s according to Spanish transfer insider Matteo Moretto, who points towards Álex Baena as the player in the sights of the former.

Atlético have long been credited with a keen interest in attacker Baena’s signature, admirers of the creative talents boasted by the Spanish international.

Some outlets, in turn, have gone as far as to point towards a deal to take Baena to the Metropolitano for next season as being close to completion.

The aforementioned Matteo Moretto denies as much, ‘not aware of any agreement between the parties’.

However, the Relevo journalist has also confirmed that:

‘In the coming days—if confirmed, early next week— Atlético de Madrid will meet with Villarreal to begin discussing the matter.’

The Villarreal brass, for their part, are expected to demand a premium sum to part with the club’s star man this summer.
