Aston Villa have started discussions with Real Betis to sign Jesus Rodriguez, who is also on the shortlist of several other sides, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 19-year-old winger is highly rated at the Seville-based club, but they could be at risk of losing him to Unai Emery’s side this summer.
Rodriguez broke through into Betis’ first team during the second half of the season and quickly started to turn heads.
He provided an assist in Betis’ 2-1 win over Real Madrid in La Liga in January and scored in a 5-1 crushing of Real Valladolid in April.
Betis continued to watch his game time closely and Rodriguez did not play the full 90 minutes in any of his 21 La Liga outings.
Now Aston Villa want to pluck the winger out of Spanish football and they have opened talks with Betis about doing a deal.
Rodriguez is on the shortlist of a number of other sides who have spotted his potential.
Aston Villa though have acted quickly and got in touch with Betis about a deal earlier this week.
Rodriguez even featured for Betis in their Conference League final defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
Aston Villa are having to watch their spending closely this summer as they bid to keep on the right side of the Premier League’s PSR rules.
Missing out on the Champions League has not helped matters for Villa, who are missing out on Rosenborg talent Sverre Nypan to Manchester City.
