According to Fabrizio Romano‘s report, two Premier League sides are currently after Toulouse’s young defender Jaydee Canvot. Crystal Palace have made him a top target to strengthen their defence, and according to Romano, the club are looking to seal a deal this summer.
On the other hand, Aston Villa’s name have also been repeatedly coming up after their first offer proved to be less than Toulouse’s asking price. However, Romano says that Villa have deepened their interest in recent times and now they seem more serious about the deal. Toulouse have set a price of around €20 million and that amount may seem heavy for a teenager, yet both clubs see big opportunities in his talent. Now the question is who will come out ahead in this race between Villa and Palace.
Canvot’s biggest strength is his physical ability and traits. The 19-year-old is strong in the air and easily stops opposition forwards. His positioning sense is also quite mature for his age, and he is clever at intercepting passes. Showing courage to take the ball and move forward from the defence makes the French centre-back special, as it can start an attack for the team.

However, his weakness is his inexperience, due to which he sometimes loses focus. These flaws can cost Canvot heavily in a fast-paced league like the Premier League. Also, his decisions under pressure are not always accurate, and his performance is not always consistent throughout the match.
If the Lions seriously sign Jaydee Canvot, then it could match Unai Emery’s thinking. Emery always likes defenders who are comfortable with the ball and can build up attacks from the back, and Canvot already has this quality. Villa often play against physical and quick opponents, so his strength and aerial ability will help them.
Also, Emery’s team have to compete in European football, and the addition of a young and talented defender will give the squad depth. Crystal Palace could pose a challenge for them, but Villa have recent success and the lure of playing in top European competition like the Europa League, which could attract Canvot. In our opinion, if Villa are willing to pay the price and get the player to believe in their project, then this deal can happen. This move will not only strengthen the current defence but also the team for years to come.
