Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said the European Championship and Copa America are ‘slowing everything down’ in the transfer market but is expecting movement in the window.

Arsenal are yet to make a signing in the summer transfer window to date but remain keen to strengthen their squad ahead of a Premier League title challenge in 2024-25.

The Gunners have been linked with signing an out-and-out centre-forward, while there’s also interest in a left-sided centre-back, central midfielder, and cover for Bukayo Saka in a wide role.

Despite links to several names, including the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Viktor Gyokeres, there has been no public progress on potential deals.

Arteta admits the major tournaments taking place complicate transfer activity but has backed the window to ‘pick up a little bit’ in the coming weeks.

“We are looking to improve in every possible department. With the new regulations, there are certain things we have to respect and be conscious of and then obviously the Euros and Copa América are slowing everything down,” Arteta told ESPN.

“Hopefully now it is going to pick up a little bit.”

Arteta was asked how active he expects Arsenal to be in the transfer window and said he is anticipating plenty of movement in and out of the Emirates this summer.

“I think both ways [players coming in and going out of the club]. There are things that we have to improve, that’s for sure and we are going to try to. But the market is tricky. We have been very aggressive, we are very determined and we have a clear idea obviously of what we want to do. It will come down to finding the right agreements at the right time.”
