Arsenal u18 head coach Jack Wilshere has reportedly applied for the vacant position at Aberdeen, but appears unlikely to get the job.

The Daily Record report that Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere is one of the applicants for Aberdeen’s head coach position, with Barry Robson having been sacked earlier this week.

For the time being, Aberdeen have put Peter Leven in charge as a caretaker manager while they search for a permanent replacement.

Aberdeen have reportedly had dozens of applications, and Wilshere is just one of them. As it stands, the Arsenal man looks unlikely to get the job due to his lack of senior experience.

The Daily Record claim Aberdeen are looking for a more experienced candidate for their next appointment, which puts 32-year-old Wilshere at a disadvantage.

Wilshere is currently the head coach for the Arsenal u18s, and he’s made some good progress with the side, most notably leading them to the FA Youth Cup final.

But it’s still youth football, and the demands are very different in the senior game.

The same outlet highlights that Wilshere was also recently interviewed for the head coach position at the Colorado Rapids, as he appears open to making the step up to senior management.

David Ornstein had reported in October that the Colorado Rapids were considering Wilshere as their new head coach, and Arsenal had given the club permission to speak with their current u18 boss.

Ornstein wrote that Wilshere impressed in his interview, and he made it to their final five candidates, but the Rapids went in another direction in the end.

“I’m really happy that Jack is part of the setup,” Mikel Arteta said at the time. “I think he’s done really well, I think he was really needed around the academy and the place.

“These things (interest from other clubs) are going to happen when people are doing well, he’s going to get attraction, and then it’s going to come down to him to make the best decision for his career.”
