Kicker reports that Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga should be unveiled as a new Hamburg signing on Monday. The twice-capped Belgian international is en-route to the Hanseatic city-state for his medical. The one-time €18m Gunners signing will head to the Bundesliga.
Lokonga last featured in the Premier League on loan with Luton Town during the 2023/24 campaign. The 25-year-old brings with him the experience of four seasons spent playing for Arsenal and on loan with both Luton and Crystal Palace. Rumors linking him with Hamburg began surfacing earlier today.
HSV find themselves desperately seeking a defensive midfielder capable of playing as a bolt-lock sweeper. The current midfield tandem of new summer acquisitions Nicolas Capaldo and Nicolai Remberg – after a strong training camp – has wilted since competitive play began.
Hamburg also joined the race to sign Danish attacker William Bøving, who can also play deep, but Kicker reports that die Rothosen have lost out to main suitors Mainz. HSV’s pursuit of flexible former Stuttgart attacker Fabian Rieder, who has some midfield experience, is also over.
