Arsenal travel to Anfield on Sunday for a huge early-season title clash, but manager Mikel Arteta is having to contend with a significant injury crisis.
The Gunners have made a perfect start to the campaign without conceding a goal, but their squad depth is now facing its first major test against the reigning champions.
A trip to Anfield, where they have not won in the league for over a decade, represents the toughest possible challenge for Arteta’s injury-hit side. Overcoming their dismal record at this ground would send a powerful statement to the rest of the league.
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he will be without two of his most influential attackers. Both Bukayo Saka (hamstring) and Kai Havertz (knee) have been ruled out for a number of weeks. Furthermore, captain Martin Ødegaard is very unlikely to feature after picking up a shoulder problem. Ben White and Leandro Trossard are also on the “touch-and-go” list.
The absences will force a reshuffle. New signing Eberechi Eze is set to be handed his full debut in midfield. On the right wing, Noni Madueke will fill the void left by Saka. The defence has also been a source of headlines. Jurriën Timber has been in superb form, with five goal involvements in his last five league starts. Viktor Gyökeres, who scored a brace last week, will lead the line.
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Eze, Zubimendi, Rice; Madueke, Gyökeres, Martinelli.
The Premier League fixture takes place at Anfield on Sunday, 31st August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 4:30 pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK. Coverage begins at 4pm BST.
