The move was agreed after a late breakthrough in negotiations, with Brentford stepping in at the end of a drawn-out transfer saga that had seen him strongly linked with Fulham and Ipswich Town.
No purchase option has been disclosed (yet), but the move provides Brentford with attacking depth on the same day they sanctioned the sale of Yoane Wissa to Newcastle United for a deal worth up to £55 million.
Andrews said: “Reiss has a skillset that will complement the rest of the attacking players we have. He’s a dribbler and he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet.
“I really like his Premier League experience and know-how of the league, as well as his age profile.
“He’s coming into the optimum years of his career, and he’s shown a real desire to come here when there’s been a lot of interest elsewhere.”
Despite extending his contract in 2023, Nelson’s opportunities remained limited. He made only one Premier League start in 2023-24 and has 61 league appearances for Arsenal, five goals and three assists, the majority from the bench.
At 25, he now heads to Brentford looking for the consistent playing time he cannot secure in north London. He will have one year remaining on his contract at the end of the season.
