Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has tipped Newcastle United to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Magpies are poised to secure a Champions League place for 2025/26.
They are two points behind the Gunners in the standings, but can climb to second with a victory against their London rivals on Sunday.
Ahead of the blockbuster Emirates Stadium encounter, Arteta made a stunning Premier League title claim for next season.
Asked whether the Tyneside club will be title contenders next season, Arteta said: “Yeah, they’ve certainly built the squad, they have the quality and a very clear identity.
“On top of that, it would be very dependent on whether teams are in Europe or not in Europe – playing once a week or three times a week.
“That’s a massive change as well, and we have all experienced that.”
Newcastle surprised everyone by beating Liverpool in the League Cup final in March, ending their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.
They will look to make some quality acquisitions this summer to boost their chances of challenging for silverware next season.
Given Newcastle were relatively quiet in the previous two transfer windows, funds will be available for new signings this summer.
However, it may take a few more years before they are able to challenge for the title.
