Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira has been excellent form lately, and that form continued as he scored in Porto’s 2-0 win away to Arouca on Saturday.
Porto were desperately in need of the three points, failing to win two games in a row since the start of 2025.
Their only victories in all competitions over that period were a 1-0 Europa League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv and a 1-0 Liga Portugal win against Farense.
But Saturday’s game against Arouca got off to a good start, with Samu Omorodion scoring a penalty in the 13th minute.

Vieira was incredibly unfortunate not to double the lead in the 70th minute, after his shot cannoned down off the crossbar and landed squarely on the goalline. Unfortunately, the spin took the ball out instead of in.
To call it a matter of inches would be an exaggeration. The difference between a goal and a miss can’t have been more than a centimetre.
But the loanee’s efforts were rewarded seven minutes later, as he cut in from the right before firing into the net at the near post from the edge of the area.

Vieira began his current run of goal contributions against Farense last month, providing an assist in a 1-0 win. He then provided another assist in Porto’s Europa League tie away to AS Roma, before scoring in his subsequent two games against Vitoria and Arouca.
Vieira now has four goals and four assists in his 30 appearances for Porto (18 starts), and he’s hopefully starting to get back to his best after his brief absence from the team towards the end of 2024.
Out of the cups and the Europa League, Porto’s one remaining shot at silverware is the Liga Portugal. They sit in third place, three points off top but having played a game extra.
