Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta issued injury updates on a number of his key players ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Leeds United.

During the week the Gunners were rocked by the news that Kai Havertz had suffered a knee injury that could keep him sidelined for weeks, if not months.

The specifics of the injury have not yet been revealed, but the fact that Arsenal went straight out and bought Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace suggests a lengthy spell on the sidelines is on the cards.

Arteta would not go into detail on the nature of the problem plaguing Havertz, but confirmed that he requires further examination and will miss the Leeds game this weekend.

“We don’t really know the extent of it,” he said. “We need a bit more time and some more tests and after that we will have some more clarity.

“I prefer not to talk about the specifics but he is not fit. We need to explore this situation a bit further and decide what we are going to do.

“I don’t know [how long he will be out for]. I would love to have him available for tomorrow.”

Jurrien Timber’s training load is being managed carefully as he recovers from an ankle operation he underwent in May.

“With Jurrien, we have to manage his load because he has been out for a long time again. We have to manage his load and have decided to take his training down”, Arteta said.

There was better news for Gabriel Jesus, who the manager says is recovering well from a cruciate ligament problem he sustained in January. That said, it might still be a while before he returns to action.

“Gabriel is doing super well. He looks in a really good place. Obviously it is a massive injury and he needs to come back in a really strong way but he is certainly in the right place.”

Arteta also confirmed that Christian Norgaard will miss the 5.30pm kickoff, while Ben White is a doubt to feature.
